Be sure to join the Civil War Half Square Triangle Exchange!!

Do you love scrappy half square triangle designs? Come join the fun learning an easy way to make 28 half square triangles at once. The fun continues when you return your triangles to the Shoppe. Once you've sewn your 28 half square triangles, you will keep one, then bundle the remaining 27 and drop them off at or mail them to the Shoppe. You have until April to sew your desired number of half square triangles. For every bundle of 27 half square triangles you bring in, you will receive an equal number of assorted half square triangles - just perfect to execute the gorgeous designs featured in 'Friendship Triangles,' by Edyta Sitar.
All roll-ups will feature Civil War reproduction fabrics so your triangles will coordinate fabulously! We will help you figure out how many roll-ups you need for your desired project(s).

You don't have to live in the valley to join the exchange! You can participate by mail. Small shipping fees will apply.We will have a Civil War Half Square Triangle Exchange LAUNCH PARTY on Saturday, February 18th. After months of waiting, Jo Morton's new line, 'Jo's Variety,' has finally arrived! The Andover warehouse was flooded this summer during the hurricane that hit the east coast, so we haven't received any Jo fabric in a few months. It's been a looooong few months! The wait is over though! This new line is full of beautiful reds, but not your usual Jo Morton red. It's more of a red red instead of a rusty red. They're great! Here's a sample:

Farmer's Wife Club

It's that time of year again! The snowbirds are coming back and our clubs are starting back up :-) First up - Farmer's Wife.

This is an ongoing club based on Laurie Hird’s book, The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt. The book has 111 traditional 6” blocks inspired by letters from 1920’s farm wives who responded to the 1922 Farmer’s Wife magazine contest. The CD provides template patterns, but no instructions on how to piece the blocks together. We've solved that problem for you!

Here’s how the club works:

Length: This club is ongoing. It will start the 1^st Friday in February and run through May. It will pick back up again in October and run until the next May. You may join in at any time. There is no guarantee that instruction will be repeated, but the patterns will always be available.

Cost: There is a $30 registration fee and the book is required. Each month you will be required to purchase a ‘helper packet’ of fabric @$16.95 and pay a nominal fee of $5 for the directions for cutting and piecing the blocks for a total monthly cost of $21.95. The first month, the ‘helper packet’ will be $21.95.

The club starts up again on Friday, October 28th, so sign up soon!

In case you all didn't know, we have a celebrity teacher here at the Shoppe! She has been in the quilting industry for a very long time, and has even written a few books. One of her newest patterns can be seen in this month's American Patchwork and Quilting magazine.

Back from Montana!

Sorry I haven't written in awhile, but we just got back last night from a week in Bozeman, Montana. We went for my cousin's wedding, but we definitely made a vacation out of it! We fly fished, hiked, shot clay pigeons in my uncle's backyard, hung out with family, ate good food (bison burgers are my new favorite) and of course, visited some quilt shops :-) Just to give you an idea of how beautiful Bozeman is, here is the view from my uncle's backyard

The weather was gorgeous! It was nice and cool and it rained for about an hour most afternoons. It made it really difficult to come back to the hot dry weather here.

Although it's hard to come back after such a fun week off, we did come back to work today to a few goodies. The new French General line 'Fa La La La La' arrived, as did some more wool from Primitive Gatherings and Blackberry Primitives! That makes for a pretty fun welcome back if you ask me!

Whitney and I have both been working on samples for the Shoppe over the past week. Shocking, I know! She just finished piecing this small wall hanging called 'Georgette's Snowflakes.'

It's made using Anna Griffin's fabric, Georgette Christmas. Kits will be available here at the Shoppe!

Meanwhile, I've been working on this kit from Primitive Gatherings that I picked up at market. I have the letters stitched down, so now onto the stems and pot!

It should look like this when it's done...

Kits of this one will be available soon.

I also wanted to let you know that we did get in some wool that we ordered at market. We still need to felt it, but it's so pretty that I wanted to show you a small sampling.

We're Home!

We are back from spring market! This year it was here:

Salt Lake City. I didn't actually take this picture, but there was still snow on the mountains, so I thought this one was appropriate. Being from Phoenix, it is so cool to see snow in the middle of May!! SLC is a really nice city and we had a great time! We saw lots of new things, met some new people and learned a little too. I'll keep you up to date as our market purchases start rolling in : )

Coming back to work after being gone for four days, however, not so much fun. The last two days have been a little overwhelming! I did want to let you know about 3 new lines of fabric that came in early last week though. For you Civil War reproduction buffs, we now have Jo Morton's 'Carolina' line and Judie Rothermel's 'The Bancroft Collection.' We also got in Buggy Barn's new Christmas line, 'Merry and Bright.' The pictures for each line are on the website now. When I get caught up with everything, I'll be back with more!

The Party is Over

Cheryl has completed the Paris in the Fall BOM sample and it is GORGEOUS! The pattern cover does not do it justice! Whitney will get it quilted soon and then we can hang it up for you all to see. The kits are available as a BOM or just a one time purchase.

We also have an update to the class schedule. Mary Dyer will be teaching the Over the River and Through the Woods quilt. This two part class will cover the embroidery technique used, the flying geese blocks and putting the whole quilt together. Check the class schedule on the website for more information. Whitney will have everything uploaded later today. We have Mary's sample hanging high in the shoppe so I couldn't get a picture of it, but here is a similar example.

Hello Again!!

As you have probably noticed, this year has not started off so well blogwise :/ I think it has been about six weeks since I last posted and that is unacceptable!! The last month and a half has gone by so quickly! When you own a quilt shop, the beginning of the year can be overwhelming with the counting of old inventory, ordering of new inventory, the start of new clubs and blocks of the month and the overall task of rearranging after the holidays. While this is a lame excuse not to blog, it's the only explanation I have, so thank you for hanging in there! I will try and use this week to catch you all up on what's been going on around here, starting with new fabrics.

We Have the BEST Customers!

I just wanted to take the time to share a couple of the gifts we received from two of our wonderful customers this week. These antique spools and shuttle were given to us by an out of town customer who thought we could use them more than she had. They are really neat pieces!!

We also got this adorable Christmas collar for our dog, Gracie, from our customer Tamami Stump. She is so talented!!

These aren't the best pictures, but my dad was cooking while I was trying to photograph her, and she was WAY more interested in the food than smiling for the camera.

Some Holiday News

First off, we will be closed on Wednesday, November 24th and Thursday, November 25th in observance of Thanksgiving. We always do Thanksgiving at our house and my mom does ALL of the cooking. This year we'll have about 30 people over, so she definitely needs that extra day off!! We will resume regular store hours on Friday, November 26th.

Second, we have added a new club to our post holiday schedule! The Liberty Star Club will begin on January 19th, 2011. Renee Plains, a local, but internationally known designer, will meet with club members quarterly to work on a special project from her vintage collection of patterns. In those months that the club does not meet, club members will receive a kit for one of Renee's patters. The fabrics in each kit will be personally selected by Renee. For more about the club, check out the class schedule or come by the Shoppe!
Speaking of Renee, be sure to visit her blog before Friday in order to be entered into her giveaway. She was part of the Home for the Holidays Buttermilk Basin Blog Hop, and has included a free pattern for an adorable angel in her latest post. We've been waiting for months now, and it's finally here! Our friend, Carrie Nelson, of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. is now officially a fabric designer, and we are the proud owners of her new line, 'Fresh Palette.' It's bright, fun, cheerful and a must buy! To show off her new line, the talented Miss Nelson designed a new pattern as well (pictured below). As soon as we receive the pattern, kits will be available at the Shoppe or on our website.

The winners of October's fat quarter drawing were Sigrid Wilcox, Linda McDermott, and Nancy Day. Congratulations to all three!

My New Obsession

I have recently become a tad bit obsessed with French General. For those of you who don't know what French General is, they (Kaari Meng) design fabrics and write books, among other things, that are based on vintage, French textiles and notions. Their books "Home Sewn" and "Handmade Soirees" have become two of my favorites! The former because of the adorable patterns and interesting facts about vintage textiles, and the latter just because of the pictures : )

I'm telling you all of this because today we are finally getting in the new fabric collection from French General called 'Maison de Garance.' I worked on getting the pictures ready to put up on the website yesterday so that they would be ready to upload as soon as the collection arrived, and let me tell you, I already love these fabrics! Unlike their last collection we carried, 'Rural Jardin,' which I also loved, this collection is a bit darker, with beautiful shades of red, brown and cream. Here is a small taste until I can get the pictures onto the website:

This One's for the Kids

If you're looking for a great gift to give a baby and/or child or if you secretly long for your very own minky quilt, we have the perfect solution(s)! We just received these adorable kits! The ones in the boxes make up simple strip quilts made from minky. They are available in either kid or adult sizes. The ones below, wrapped in just the bow, make up a blanket(the solid color minky) with just a binding(the minky wrapped around the solid color). They really are cute!!

New Fabrics!

The UPS man had a very busy week! We got lots of boxes the last few days, all FILLED with new fabrics!! I kind of feel sorry for him since it's so hot and he always looks so tired when he leaves, but not sorry enough to distract from how excited we are about getting in new stuff! That NEVER gets old! This weeks arrivals included: 'Remembrance' by Jan Patek, 'Annandale' by Jo Morton, and 'Colorful Christmas' from Riley Blake.

Aside from staring at and fondling the new fabric, we did get some work done. We cut kits for all of the patterns picutured below, using fabrics from Jan Patek's 'Remembrance' line.

We also plan to make adorable pillowcase kits with Riley Blake's 'Colorful Christmas' fabrics. They would make great gifts for kids! Here's a sample:

We would also like to congratulate Margie Keller, Julie Miller and Sigrid Wilcox! They are the September winners of our monthly fat quarter drawing. October's drawing has now begun. Bring in as many fat quarters as you'd like, with your name and contact information attached, and at the end of the month, we will match however many fat quarters are in the basket. Post Shop Hop

The 2010 Shop Hop (or the 'Sock Hop' as my grandma referred to it as all week) is over and boy was it fun! This was our first year participating in the event, so we really didn't know what to expect. Every day was BUSY and non-stop. We really enjoyed seeing many of our loyal customers and meeting tons of new ones! I will say, though, that that much excitement can be EXHAUSTING! This was especially the case for my grandma. We couldn't have gotten through last week without her help (she was the demo lady for all of you who came through), but it really wore her out. I managed to sneak in a picture of her 'break time.' She claims she was just "resting her eyes," but she was in that same position for quite some time.

For those of you who participated in the Hop, our version of the mystery quilt is now available to see in the Shoppe. Our friend Lin Ochs did a fabulous job piecing it! Thanks Lin and thanks to all of you who visited us : )

In other news, we want to congratulate Cheryl Arnold for winning the "Two in the Bush" pattern by correctly pointing out Whitney's mistake. Good eye Cheryl!

Also, Whitney will be adding a few more classes to the schedule in the next couple of days, so keep an eye out. They are filling up fast!

Whitney's Been Busy

Since Whitney is by far the best piecer out of the three of us, she is usually given the task of making store samples (around here, if the other two find out you're good at something or at least better than them at doing it, then that something becomes YOUR job, so the trick is to just be 'OK' at everything - obviously Whitney didn't learn that lesson in time). Over the past couple of weeks she has pieced and quilted two quilts. The first is just a big block quilt using Holly Taylor's 'Classics' collection. The best part of the quilt is what she put on the back. She used some of Moda's fireside fabric. If you don't know what that is, the best way I can describe it is a blend of minkee and flannel. It's not quite as soft as minkee, but it's definitely softer than flannel. It would be great to cuddle up with as soon as it cools down around here!

The second quilt she made would be just as nice to cuddle up with. It is Bonnie Sullivan's 'Two in the Bush' pattern, using various flannels. It's really pretty and Whitney did a great job matching up all of those points, but she did make one mistake. If you think you know what error she made, let us know, and one lucky person with the right answer will get the pattern for free, compliments of Whitney. Contact us (come in, call us, email us, or comment below) by September 18th to be eligible to win the pattern.

Kits are available for both the big block quilt and 'Two in the Bush.'

Sample Mood

Something came over me sometime around the middle of last week, and I was suddenly in the mood to make up some store samples. Nothing too big or complicated, just quick and easy. I decided on some new tea towels. We have had the same ones hanging up by the register for awhile now and we recently got in some cute tea towel patterns by Primitive Gatherings, so how could I resist? Each pattern contains instructions for six different tea towels, so I picked my favorite from each. They are not yet stitched down, but I figure that since I picked out the towels and fabrics, traced the designs onto Steam-a-Seam, and ironed everything down, it's only fair that my mom or Whitney do the stitching. That of course means that they will never get done, but this should give you a good idea of what they're supposed to look like:

We also decided late last week that kits for the Diamond Delight table runner would be a cute idea and since we now have the Holiday Flourish 3 collection, it worked out perfectly! Now we have these:

It's Me Again...

As soon as I hit the 'Publish Post' button yesterday, the UPS man showed up with some BIG boxes. Those boxes were filled with lots of fun new stuff, so I thought I'd share some of them with you. First of all, I was very excited to get two new books from the people at French General. We had seen these books at different stores during our road trip last month, and I LOVED them. They both have the cutest little projects. If you like their fabrics, you'll feel the same way about these books.

We also got the Spirit collection by Lila Tueller. It's a brighter, trendier look than we usually go for, but it makes up adorable dresses for young girls and a fun coat for the more mature audience.

We also started getting some patterns from Buttermilk Basin. Their patterns have a very vintage look and span all seasons, however, we only have fall/Halloween themed patterns so far. Here's my favorite:

As if that wasn't enough, we also got new patterns from Jan Patek, a small booklet all about embroidery stitches, and a few other trinkets. It definitely made for a fun morning! I think the UPS truck just passed by, so I think that's it for now.

Shop Hop Til Ya Drop

It's that time of year again! In just over a month, the Valley of the Sun Shop Hop will begin!! As of today, you can buy your passport here at The Shoppe. The passport and charm, together, are $5.00. There are an unlimited number of passports, however, charms are limited, so come in as soon as possible to purchase both!

In other news, we have completed our rearrangement of the store. All holiday fabrics (at least the ones we've received so far) have been put out and are ready to be made into something wonderful! Here are a few more pictures of what we've been working on:

We have also received a couple of gifts in the last week that we want to brag about : ) For The Shoppe's two year anniversary, our friends/customers/helpers Cheryl Miller and Lin Ochs made my mom and Whitney each signature quilts (the pattern came from Jo Morton's book, 'Vintage Journey'). Some of our customers, teachers and favorite local designers all signed the blocks, and to top it off, the amazing Sharon Brooks quilted both of them! They really are beautiful!!

We also each got one of these from our friend Renee Plains. She brought them back from her trip to Paris. They're so cute! We love her!

It's been a whole week since we got home and we've only rearranged one corner of the store. I think we may have underestimated how much work this is going to be :/

It's Good to be Home!

We're back! After a LONG week of driving a 3100 mile circle around the west I am SO glad to be home. It was a fun trip, but if I never see the inside of a hotel room again, it'll be too soon! The driving wouldn't have been so bad, except I had to share my seat with the princess of the family. My parents' favorite child, the dog (Gracie), had this elaborate bed set up for her that took up 3/4 of the back seat.

However, she decided it would be more comfortable to share the little space I was allotted and sit on my lap.

Needless to say, I did not even take my pincushion project out of the bag!

Overall, the trip was educational. I learned that I am much more of a city girl than I previously thought, and that moving to the middle of NOWHERE is not something I am interested in anymore. So, I will not be moving in September, which means you're all stuck with me at the Shoppe! The whole 3100 mile trip was all worth it though. I got to see Mount Hood in Portland, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and visit wineries in Napa :) The best part about the trip, however, was stopping along the way at different quilt shops. I haven't been to another shop since we opened, so it was fun to see how different people in different states set up their stores. We went to eight stores in all, and each one was completely different. After visiting all of those shops, my mom and I are in the mood to rearrange ours. We probably won't change too much, but we're excited to get back to work on Tuesday! I'll keep you posted on any progress we make and, of course, anything new that arrives.

It's 115 degrees and miserable outside, so we thought this would be the perfect time to tell you that all of our Halloween fabric is out and ready to be made into something fun! I know, it's the last thing on your mind right now, but in both the retail and quilting worlds, starting early is a necessary evil. We do have some really cute stuff though, if that makes you feel any better : ) My personal favorite is 'Hallowgraphix' by Jason Yenter that just arrived Tuesday. Here are a few samples:

This will be my last post for at least a week. I head out tomorrow on a week long road trip with my parents and our dog, up to Washington wine country. Wish me luck!! I'll be looking for a place to live for when I move up there in September. I plan on staying busy during the 20 hour drive with a little handwork. My goal is to finish all three pincushions from the 'Summer Gatherings' book by Primitive Gatherings. I'll start with this one, and we'll see how much further I actually get.

A Little Inspiration

The best part about our job is the people we get to meet and the inspiration they provide us everyday. We were lucky enough last week to meet Judy Fleming, a very nice, very talented woman, who was kind enough to bring in her Dear Jane quilt to share with us. It took Judy ten years to complete the approximately 90" x 90" project, which she admits, helped her through some tough times over the last decade. The picture below does not do it justice. It's absolutely beautiful!! Thanks Judy!

We also got a visit from my grandma's cousin, Marshall, and his wife, Sue, last Tuesday. As they were touring the Shoppe, Sue told us about a friend of hers who had made a rag quilt that looked like a flag. Whitney, thinking this would be a fairly easy project, decided to start one that day. As we found, it took a little more strategizing and planning than we originally thought. It took a few extra days, but she did a great job!

First and foremost, for those of you who don't know, my alma mater, Arizona State, beat my grandaddy's alma mater, Arkansas, last night to advance to the college baseball world series!! This means two things - first, if you come into the Shoppe between Tuesday, June 15th and Saturday, June 19th, and say 'Go Devils!,' you will receive 15% off one cut of fabric (does not apply to fabric already on sale). If, however, you have a chance to say it to Whitney, you will receive 20% off (make sure to rub it in good!). Second, if you do come into the Shoppe and an older man decked out in ASU apparel greets you at the door, don't give him too hard of a time -after all, his team did just lose the chance to play in the college world series : )

Now to some news that actually pertains to the store...

Thanks to the wonderful Pam McMahon and Renee Plains, we now have new samples hanging throughout the store, most of which we have cut kits for. They are both very talented, so come check out all of their new work! Speaking of Renee, check out her blog (http://libertystar.typepad.com/my_weblog/) to see who we got to hang out with a couple of weeks ago. It was definitely one of the most fun days we've had since opening up the Shoppe. Also, if you have any good tips for traveling to Paris, leave her a comment because she's going to Europe for the first time next week!

Spring Quilt Market 2010

I have officially returned from my very first quilt market, and it was a blast! I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised.

We arrived in Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon. After dropping off our luggage at the hotel (we stayed at the Residence Inn, which I highly recommend if you're traveling with someone you will be with all day long for four straight days. I love my mother, but having your own room and bathroom is a blessing at the end of a long day), we spent the rest of the day exploring downtown. Minneapolis is such a beautiful city! I didn't take many pictures, so I took some pictures from the internet that I think give you a pretty good idea of what it looks like. My favorite part was the Mary Tyler Moore statue : ) After eating a great dinner at a local restaurant, we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep. We had to rest up for schoolhouse the next day!

So on Thursday morning, we headed down to the convention center for a long day full of mini presentations, put on by fabric and pattern designers and fabric companies. We went to 13 schoolhouses and they were all great! We got to see Monique Dillard demonstrate her flying geese ruler and her beautiful new fabric line (which I'm pretty sure we will be carrying), Shannon Fabric reps taught us some cool new ways to work with minky, and our friend Renee Plains from http://www.liberty-star.com/ entertained us while showing off adorable projects from her great new book, A Bird in Hand. Those were some of our favorites, but they were all really interesting and fun!

The next day market officially began! It was so overwhelming. There were hundreds of booths! Some of them were just amazing. I was going to take pictures of some of our favorites, but right as I got my camera out to take the first picture, a lady next to me got scolded by a booth owner. I was too chicken to try and take one after that, but some of the designers got some great pictures you should check out. I know Mary Andra Holmes from Sisters' Quilting Trunk and Ann Sutton of Bunny Hill both have some on their blogs and I'm sure the others will get some up soon. It was so much fun to meet new people like Amy Butler and Jo Morton and to catch up with people we already know. We also got some great ideas that we can't wait to implement in the Shoppe. I think my favorite part of the day, however, was dinner. We were lucky enough to be invited out by our pal Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. Being the famous person that she is (she likes when we point that out to her ; )), she naturally hangs out with other famous people from the quilting world. We were joined by Monique Dillard, who I mentioned above, Bonnie Sullivan and Kathy Schmitz, both designers for Moda, some of their friends and family, and Judy Adams, a friend of Carrie's and one of our customers. It was so much fun getting to know these ladies. They are all very talented and very nice people.

Saturday was our last day, so we went back to our favorite booths, visited some that we had missed, and said goodbye to some of our friends. We got back home Saturday night and we were exhausted! I had so much fun and can't wait until next year in Salt Lake City.

We are still trying to get caught up from being gone, but I will be blogging again in the next couple of days about some of the new fabric that came while we were away, so stay tuned.

New Projects

My computer says that it is currently 97 degrees outside right now. Ugh! It is waaaay too early for it to be that hot!! However, the warm weather does mean one good thing - we all have an excuse to stay inside and quilt (not that you really needed an excuse for that, but it's a good one if you do need it)!

If you're looking for a new project to work on, we have you covered. We have just spent the last week or so cutting a bunch of new kits. I have posted some pictures below of some of the quilts we now have kits for (the fabrics in the pictures are most likely not the same as they are in the kits).

Two Years!!

It's gone by so fast! This month marks the second anniversary of The Shoppe. We are so proud and excited that we have made it this far! We certainly could not have done it without our amazing customers. Everyone has been so kind and supportive and we thank you all! In honor of the occassion, Julie Miller, a customer and friend, gave us these beautiful tulips : )

Aside from our anniversary, April also meant the release of Carrie Nelson's new book, Schnibbles times two, and her book signing at The Shoppe. The event was so much fun! We had a great turnout, which meant Carrie got to sign a lot of books!! She is so much fun and does so much for the store. We appreciate everything she has done for us and we are so excited that her book has been such a success! I know the girls in Rosie's Club feel the same way. Before the book signing, Carrie gave the group a special demonstration on how to make a Tuffett (a pincushion). She also gave away a couple of prizes to some lucky ladies!

We are taking names of those who are interested and will send you information about the club as soon as it's available. Lastly, we just received Jo Morton's latest line, Cocoa Express. It's beautiful! If you liked Ravenwood (blacks) and Indigo Berries (blues), then you'll love this collection. Same patterns, just in browns. The earlier two collections are up on the website and Cocoa Express will be shortly.

It's a new month, which means new fabric!!

In addition to all of the new collections I blogged about last month, we have received three more in the last couple of weeks. For the reproduction lovers out there, we now have Jo Morton's Ravenwood and Indigo Berries lines. The Ravenwood collection consists of about thirteen bolts of pretty black prints and the Indigo Berries, as you might guess, consists of the same prints, but in blues. They are both beautiful, but what else would you expect from Jo?

For those of you Moda maniacs, we also received the new French General collection, Rural Jardin. The entire collection, as well as the pre-cuts, are now available. All pictures will be up on the website soon!

Also, don't forget to pre-order Carrie Nelson's Schnibbles times two, before April 10th, in order to receive a 20% discount. She will be here on Saturday, April 17th, between 12:30 and 2:30 signing copies!

We have had a lot going on in the Shoppe since the last time I posted a few weeks ago! Here's all of the latest news in a flash:

First and foremost, we would all like to congratulate Cheryl Miller and Lin Ochs on their ribbon winning quilts at the AZ Quilter's Guild Quilt Show last weekend. Cheryl received a first place ribbon and Lin, an honorable mention. We are so proud of both of them!

Second, we have received lots of new fabric! For those of you civil war reproduction fanatics, we now have Jo Morton's Banner Day and her new additions to the IQSC Hampton line, as well as Judy Rothermel's Twelve Oaks and Civil War Tribute collections. For the rest of you, Brannock and Patek's Looking Back line has arrived, as has Renee Nanneman's Itsy Bits III. And finally, for the little ones, we now have the adorable Jungles Buddies collection, the kid's flannel line, Precious, and some really soft, really cute new minky! Thanks to one of our teachers and a good friend of ours, Cheryl Miller, we now have a brand new quilt for the Shoppe's bed. The quilt is from Kim Diehl's Simple Comforts book and it is BEAUTIFUL! Cheryl used a variety of Jo Morton and Judy Rothermel fabrics, which give the quilt a wonderful scrappy look. The quilting was done by the fabulous Sharon Brooks. It is hard to tell from the picture, but her work on the borders is amazing. It really made the quilt, in my opinion. Cheryl plans on taking the quilt up to her cabin, so come check it out while you can!

Glow in the Dark

First of all, I apologize about the last minute blog this week. It seems like I just did the last one a few days ago, but I realized this morning that it was way back on January 28th. This week has flown by!

Part of the reason this week seemed to go by so fast was that we got some fun new fabric in the Shoppe! The Space Rangers collection is perfect for young kids interested in astronomy. This isn't your everday space fabric, however. The stars and some of the planets actually glow in the dark! We've had so much fun with this collection. As you can see below, we already have some fun things made up using the Space Rangers line. Margie Keller made the pillowcase and Whitney quilted a panel that can be used for a play mat or wall hanging. If you get a chance, come in and check them out! We can turn out the lights and watch them glow!

Kits, Kits, Kits

Well it's that week again... Quilting in the Desert has arrived in Phoenix! On Tuesday night, the ladies participating in the event were treated to a bus tour of some of the shops around the valley, including ours. We had so much fun talking with these women, some of whom had traveled all the way from New York! Some of them even came back the next day to get in even more shopping. Quilter's are the same, no matter where they're from - they're never done shopping for fabric!

Although we were busy all week, thanks in part to Quilting in the Desert, we did manage to get some work in as well. We have been trying to get more kits put together, some old and some new, so that was our goal for this week. However, we only cut two - Raise the Roof by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. (seen below) and more Family Affair kits (the one we designed for the Quilt Sampler magazine). In case you have not been in the store lately, we do have some fairly new kits. Among them are two from Thimble Blossoms/Cotton Way - Life's Journey and Abundance (they are both really cute!) and Amalie's Log Cabin, which is beautiful! Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, we will have even more kits available.

Some other exciting news, we have received new samples in the shop straight from the designers themselves! We received two from Carrie Nelson (Miss Rosie), Cracked Pots (seen below) and Sweet Tea, and Double Dare Ya Table Runner from Pam McMahon. They are all fabulous and worth seeing in person!

We're Back...

It's a new year, inventory counts have almost been completed and Jordan is finally done with school, which means it is time to start dedicating more time to the blog. One of our New Years resolutions was to write a new post at least once a week, so that is the goal! In those weekly posts, we plan to highlight one feature of the store. It could be a fabric collection, a book/pattern, a kit, a class/club, etc, along with any special events happening at the Shoppe. This week, the spotlight is on the Miss Rosie's Club.

The club, taught by Sue Maitre, began last fall. Each month the ladies make a different pattern designed by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. Thanks to Sigrid Wilcox, a member of the club, we can share some photos of the beautiful quilts pieced by these talented women so far.

First up is the Lincoln quilt pieced by Tamami Stump, using fabrics from the Wiscasset collection by Minick and Simpson. She did a fabulous job!

Next, is the Madeline quilt pieced by Sigrid, using fabrics from French General's Rouenneries line. It's gorgeous!

We have had so much fun the last few months seeing all of the different versions of the same patterns created by each member and we can't wait to see what's next!

New Fabrics!

We're back! We apologize for the long span between posts. It's been almost a month, which means lots of fun new things to talk about!

First, we have a winner in the Breast Cancer Quilt Drawing. Paula McCoy from Phoenix is the lucky recipient of the quilt this year. Congratulations Paula!

Second, we are having a sale this week. All Halloween fabrics are 25% through this Saturday, November 7th (1 yard minimum, no other sales apply).

Finally, we have in several new lines of fabric. These include the new Jo Morton collection, Toast II, Blessings by Jan Patek (includes wovens) and Wiscasset by Minnick and Simpson. We will also be receiving Astor Manor by 3 Sisters within the next week. All of the pictures for each of these collections can be viewed on our website, as can new classes being offered.
